ST JOSEPH'S FC v Europa FC

MATCH REPORT:

St Joseph’s hosted Europa FC who have had a rocky start to the season. The Saint’s were thinking they could take advantage of a disorganised Europa. But it was Europa who applied the pressure in the first half, and St Joseph’s struggled to put any fluidity to their game. Saints winger ‘Cornejo’ kept coming into the inside, but couldn’t link up with the Saints midfield. This was much of the cause of frustration for the Saints till half-time. The 2nd Half started with Europa putting pressure on the Saints defence, and it paid off in the 57th minute with St Josephs defence scrambling the ball out of the area from a corner, only for an acrobatic overhead kick saw the ball back into the Saints box, for Europa striker Gomez Bernal to head it into the net to make it 1-0. St Joseph’s reacted and JP Duarte came close taking the ball round 3 Europa players, only to scuff his shot outside of the area. Nothing seemed to be working, on yet another frustrating night for the Saints. Europa edge closer, and Gib United suffered a defeat to league leaders Lincoln FC. It is starting to look tighter from 2nd to 4th place.

Saint Players Duarte & Robba' make Gibraltar Squad

John Paul Duarte Poland v Gib

Congratulations to Saints players John Paul Duarte and Jamie Robba having been called-up for the International squad to face Estonia7on the 7th October 2017. JP Duarte has fired his way back into contention with 10 goals in the league last season to help St Joseph’s up to third place and helped the club into Europa League football. They’ll need Duarte to keep his form up, which in turn will make it likely he adds to his nine caps for the national team since 2013. Jamie Robba, has been played well for the saints since his return from a loan move to Torquay United last season.

PREVIEW: The Saints will be looking for a better performance since their loss against Europa FC. St Joseph’s FC are next in action versus Mons Calpe FC, KO 18:15hrs, on Saturday 18th November at Victoria Stadium, Gibraltar.
